We take vitamins to encourage normal growth and development and so we can maintain a healthy body.

Vitamin C is also known as ascorbic acid, it is a water-soluble vitamin – water soluble vitamins can dissolve in water which means the vitamins are carried to the body’s tissues but are not stored in the body, they are excreted through urine.  Therefore, it is important to take it daily to ensure your body does not go short.  Unlike B12 which is stored in the body for a long time, with vitamin C we must follow a healthy diet, so we get our daily intake and take supplements, if necessary, to maintain our dosage. Whilst it is not excreted straight away its only in the body for a matter of weeks, so we do need to be aware of this as a deficiency can lead to unwanted side effects.

The advisable maximum daily dosage is around 2000mg for all vitamin intake daily, some take much more than this however, whilst it’s important to get vitamins in your diet it is also important that you don’t overdo it.  Your body must digest and work hard daily, there is such a saying “to much of a good thing can lead to a bad” so it is always best to stay within recommended guidelines.

The vitamin family has numerous vitamins, vitamin C being one of them which is an essential part of our vitamin intake and may be used for the following:

  • Helps to protect cells and keeps them healthy
  • Antioxidant support (protection against free radicals)
  • Maintaining healthy skin, bones, teeth, cartilage, blood vessels
  • Supports normal skin function including collagen production
